2009 Mazda CX-7 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a man over in Oxnard Shores who drove a 2009 Mazda CX-7. He was a retired bus driver on a dialysis schedule, three treatments a week, and he had it mapped out to the minute.
His aide was unavailable that morning, his fob had gone dead on the remote functions, and getting across town to a Mazda dealer was not just inconvenient. It was a real scheduling conflict with his medical routine.
He asked if I could come to him. I told him I could be there before his next treatment window.
When I got there, I confirmed the fob battery was the original. CR2025, years old, reading almost nothing on the meter. Swapped it out, reseated it correctly, and tested every button. Lock, unlock, and both additional functions came back clean. The immobilizer side had stayed intact the whole time, which is typical when the issue is just a dead cell rather than a registration problem.
I walked him through every button so he could see it work in his hand before I packed up. He did not miss his appointment. Did not have to arrange a tow or a ride to a dealership. The dealer had quoted him a number that included diagnostic time and parts markup that had no business being part of a battery and confirmation job.
He saved a good chunk. More than that, he kept his morning.
