2003 Nissan 350z Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out in East Area 2 on a Tuesday afternoon, parked near the courts off the main stretch. The guy who called me had his 350z sitting there looking fine from the outside. The problem was his remote head key had stopped doing anything remotely useful. The blade still turned the ignition, but the four buttons were dead and the car wasn't responding. The CR1616 he had put in was the right size, but the negative contact had a slight outward bow and wasn't making solid connection with the cell. That alone can kill the remote function even with a brand new battery. I seated it correctly, pressed the contacts down, and closed the shell back up.
One button press. Locks clicked. He stood up.
I still ran through everything, because that's the job. All four buttons. Remote range from across the lot. Three starts back to back. I also connected to the OBD port to verify the immobilizer was reading the key cleanly, because a contact fix doesn't tell you whether the transponder registration is solid. On a car this age, you want confirmation, not assumption.
Everything checked out. The immobilizer saw the key exactly as it should. He didn't need a new fob, didn't need programming, didn't need a trip across town to a dealer who would have taken two days to even look at it.
He said the dealer told him over the phone it would be at least that long just for the diagnostic appointment.
