A guy near the Main Street corridor in Santa Paula flagged me down about his 2003 350z. He had one working key left, the blade was cracked halfway through near the bow, and he had been babying it for weeks, turning the ignition like he was defusing something.

I decoded his NSN14 blade from the door lock, cut a fresh key on site, then connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port under the dash. The 350z uses NATS-5 with a 4D60 transponder, so I accessed the BCM, pulled the key data, and ran the registration with both his old key and the new one in the same session. There is a security countdown the system forces you to wait through. Nothing to do but stand there.
Then the part he did not expect. I tested every button on the CWTWB1U751 fob: lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Walked thirty feet out and tested range. Started the car three times cold to rule out any intermittent read failures from the NATS ring antenna around the ignition.
He watched the whole thing from the sidewalk and said the testing surprised him. He figured I would hand him the key and leave.
That is how it should go. The whole job took about 25 minutes, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
