Out in East Santa Paula, a guy called me about his 2005 350z sitting in a lot near the boat launch. That process erases whatever keys the system had stored and registers the new one from scratch as the primary. It has a timed step built in, so you just have to let it run.
I cut the blade to match the decoded wafer positions, programmed the new remote head key, and walked every button. Lock, unlock, the panic button, all of it. Then I made him a spare on the spot, because a guy who loses his only key once will think about a spare the second time.
His 350z started in the same lot he'd been stranded in. He didn't need a tow. He didn't need a Monday appointment. The dealer comparison came up in conversation and it wasn't close -- he saved a good chunk.
