Saturday night near Seaside Park in Ventura, a group of friends came out of a Korean BBQ spot and their 2013 Juke wouldn't start. The dash just showed "KEY NOT DETECTED" and nobody in the group knew about the backup procedure where you hold the dead fob right against the start button to get the immobilizer to read the ID46 chip through close contact.
They figured they were stuck until Monday. Called me just to ask if anything could even be done that late.
I was about 15 minutes out with the right Intelligent Key blank already in the van. Their fob, the CWTWB1U808 with part number 285E3-1KM0D, turned out to have a completely dead CR2032. The battery contacts inside the shell had a little bit of that green corrosion you see near the coast. Cleaned those up, dropped in a fresh CR2032, ran the registration through the diagnostic port on the BCM, and confirmed the 4D60 transponder was pairing with the NATS module on the first cycle.
Remote range came back full. Lock, unlock, trunk, push-to-start, all responding clean.
They drove home that Saturday night. A dealer would have had them waiting until Monday at a minimum, and for a lot more money. When the parts are already in the van, a 10pm Saturday call gets the same result as a Tuesday morning appointment.
