Got a call from a guy up near the Ventura Botanical Gardens. His 2015 Juke's key had snapped right in the ignition. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, the other half sitting in his palm. He was afraid to force anything and make it worse.
I pulled up and could see the break right away. Clean snap, probably from a stress crack that had been building for a while. The NSN14 keyway on these Jukes is narrow, and Nissan's brass blades get brittle after years of pocket carry and side-load torque.
I used a DAT17 Lishi to extract the broken piece without scoring the wafers. Took about four minutes. Once it was out, I decoded the lock directly off the cylinder and cut a fresh NSN14 blade from the readings. His CWTWB1U808 fob was perfectly fine, so the remote side needed nothing. I just had to program the new transponder chip through the OBD port. The NATS5 BCM (28590-1KA0A on these Jukes) accepted the new 46 chip on the first registration cycle. Quick PIN read, write, done.
He stood there watching me decode the lock on the hood and said, "I thought I was getting towed out of here." He wasn't. Whole thing ran under an hour from the time he called.
The dealer in Ventura quoted him two days and a tow. He saved a good chunk and drove home same morning.
