2014 Nissan Juke
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2014 Nissan Juke Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a July afternoon in Pacific View, Ventura. A customer called me from the parking lot of a grocery store. His 2014 Juke wouldn't respond to the fob, he couldn't get in, and his frozen food was sitting in the back seat counting down.

He'd already called the dealer. Next available appointment was the following morning.

I was there in 15 minutes.

Once I got the door open, I pulled the fob apart on the hood. The CR2032 was completely dead, and the battery contact clips inside had a thin layer of corrosion, the kind that builds up over years and quietly chokes the connection even when a new battery goes in. The backup start procedure he'd tried at the button hadn't worked because the fob couldn't put out enough signal to even reach the column antenna at contact range.

The corrosion told me the fob itself had taken enough wear that a battery swap alone wasn't going to hold. I replaced the fob, programmed the new one through the OBD port, walked every function, checked remote range from across the lot, and confirmed the start button was reading the key normally.

From his phone call to the engine running was 38 minutes. The frozen stuff survived. He told me the dealer had quoted him a next-day appointment and a price that was a significant chunk more than what he paid me. That part almost felt like an afterthought by then.
