2005 Pontiac Bonneville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy near the Woolworths Building downtown in Oxnard. His 2005 Bonneville just quit starting that morning. Engine cranked fine, turned over strong, but would not fire. The SECURITY telltale on the instrument cluster was on solid.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, leave it for a few days, and they would diagnose whether it was the transponder key, the passlock sensor, or the BCM. He did not have a second car.

I pulled up, checked his key first. It was the original B99 head with the PK3 Megamos ID 13 chip inside. The chip read clean on my programmer. So the key was fine. The problem was on the car side. The passlock sensor in the steering column had lost its learned resistance value, which is a known issue on these W-body GMs. The BCM was throwing a B2960 (security system sensor data incorrect).

I ran the PK3 relearn through the OBD-II port, cleared the code from the BCM, and tested the key three times cold. Fired every time. SECURITY light cycled off the way it should.

Whole thing took about 25 minutes right there on the street. He kept his original key, did not need a tow, and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted just for the diagnosis alone.
