A young couple near Libbey Park in Ojai had just signed on a used 2019 Ram 2500 at the credit union lot. Good truck, fair price, one key. The finance guy told them to get a spare made. The whole thing took about 25 minutes. They stood by the tailgate talking about where to put the spare so neither of them would lose it. He wanted the glovebox. She wanted the house. She won.
They drove home with two working fobs for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. That spare also means if one ever goes missing, the next job is a simple add-a-key instead of a full all-keys-lost reset, which is a completely different price and process.
