Guy in San Jose Creek had his 2021 Ram 2500 throw "Key Fob Not Detected" at a gas pump. Truck running, he stepped out to fuel up, and couldn't restart.
His GQ4-76T smart key had all five buttons working fine for lock, unlock, remote start, panic, and tailgate release. But the RF Hub wouldn't see it for starting. He tried the backup method, holding the fob right against the push button. Nothing.
I pulled diagnostics first. No DTCs stored, RF Hub firmware current. The fob tested at 2.7 volts, just under the threshold. Fresh CR2032, cleaned the contacts, and the truck fired right up. But here's what caught me: his spare key, still in the kitchen drawer at home, was completely dead. If this one had fully died at the pump, he'd have been stranded.
I cut and programmed a third key on the spot. The blank's part 68374994AB, high-security laser cut profile. Programming through the secure gateway took 22 minutes including the security delay timer. Now he keeps the new one in his wallet.
The dealer quoted him a week wait for the blank, plus whatever they'd charge. We handled it in his driveway for way less than their estimate.
