2010 Scion XD Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy pulled into a gas station off the freeway near Rancho Tapo Community Park in Simi Valley and called me because his 2010 Scion xD key was getting harder to turn every week. Said he could feel the blade catching on something inside the ignition, and he was afraid it was about to snap.
Smart call. The TOY43 blade on his MOZB41TG was worn thin on cuts 3 and 7. Wafers in the ignition were grabbing at the rounded edges instead of reading them clean. Another week of that and he would have been fishing a broken blade tip out of the cylinder with the car dead at whatever parking lot it chose to quit in.
I decoded the lock from the driver door using my Lishi TOY43 pick/decoder, where the wafers were still in better shape. Cut a fresh blade on site to factory depth specs. Then I cloned the 4D-67 transponder chip through OBD. One cycle, the immobilizer accepted it, and the engine turned over first try. Tested all three remote buttons from about 30 feet out: lock, unlock, panic. All good.
He sat in the driver seat and turned the new key a few times, just feeling how smooth it was compared to what he had been fighting. Whole thing was done before his coffee got cold. He kept the old key as a backup, which I told him was fine for the remote buttons but not to trust that blade in the ignition anymore.
