Over near Chesebro Canyon Trail in Simi Valley, a woman had everything ready when I showed up. I mean everything. VIN texted to me before I left, registration sitting on the dash, ID in hand. That almost never happens and it changes the whole job.
Her 2014 Scion xD needed a spare remote head key. She still had one working key, which is the detail that matters most. Add-a-key on the 4D-67 system is a completely different animal than all-keys-lost. AKL on this car can mean pulling the immobilizer ECU, reading the 93C56 EEPROM, and extracting the encryption seed. That turns a quick job into a bench job.
With her working key I used my VVDI2 to clone the 4D-67 chip data onto a fresh blank. Already had the right TOY43 profile cut-ready in the van because the VIN told me everything I needed on the drive over. Cut the key by code, tested it in the door, tested the ignition, cycled the remote all three buttons from 30 feet out.
Fourteen minutes, parking to handoff. She watched the whole thing from about two feet away and then just looked at the key like she expected more steps.
The dealer on this car quotes a week-plus wait for the key to ship and wants you to tow it in if you are down to zero keys. She skipped all of that.
