A renter over near the Newbury Park Bike Path in Thousand Oaks called because his spare key had stopped starting his 2000 Celica. Doors unlocked fine, remote worked, engine cranked but would not catch. Classic immobilizer rejection. The security light on the dash was blinking steady instead of going out after a couple seconds.

Dead 4C chip. The glass vial inside the key head had just given up. It happens on these older Toyota fixed-code transponders after years of heat cycling on a keyring.
I decoded his door lock with a TOY43 Lishi, cut a fresh blade, seated a new 4C chip, and registered it through the key-add procedure. Then I tested the BAB237131-056 remote, all three buttons, lock, unlock, and panic, while I was there. Everything talked.
The whole thing took maybe 30 minutes in his parking spot. He kept the old blade as a backup for the doors, which is actually a smart move. No tow, no waiting room, no second trip. Just a working car again.
