2000 Toyota Celica Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy over near The Oaks Mall Area called me about his 2000 Celica. He still had his original key and one working fob, but the fob was getting flaky. Range had dropped to almost nothing and he had to stand next to the door for it to register. He wanted a spare before it quit entirely.
He had already called the dealer. The number they gave him was enough to make him pause and start Googling alternatives.
I pulled up to his building, checked the VIN first thing, confirmed the build origin, and decoded the door lock to get the blade cut right. The fob itself takes a CR2032, which is easy to source, but a fresh battery alone wasn't going to fix his original. It had other problems. The replacement fob needed to be programmed through the OBD port to register with the vehicle, which I did on site.
Start to finish was about 35 minutes. He had a working spare in his hand before I pulled away.
The dealer quote came up again while I was wrapping up. He said he almost just paid it because he assumed there was no other way. That's the part I hear most often. The job is the same either way. The difference is where it happens and what it costs.
