Guy landed after a late flight, walked out to the economy lot near the Ventura County Fairgrounds, and his 2005 Touareg was completely dead to the fob. No chirp, no lights, nothing. He stood there pressing the button over and over. He is a documentary filmmaker with a shoot starting in four hours across town.
He called the dealer. Earliest opening was Thursday. This was Tuesday night.
He found me online and asked if I could come out to the lot. I got there in under an hour. First thing I showed him was the emergency key blade hidden inside the KR55WK45032 fob housing. He had owned the car for three years and never knew it was in there. We got the door open with that, then I had him hold the dead fob against the steering column cowl so the passive ID48 transponder could talk to the immobilizer at close range. Engine fired right up.
That confirmed his KESSY module and immobilizer were fine. The problem was just the CR2025 dying, which killed remote wake-up and proximity detection. I swapped the battery, then ran a quick channel adaptation through the OBD port on my IM608 to clear the communication fault code stored in address 05. Tested all four buttons, walk-away lock, walk-up unlock, push-to-start from the driver seat and passenger seat.
I tossed a spare CR2025 in his camera bag. He made his shoot on time.
