Out in Bridle Path, one of the quieter stretches of Simi Valley where the lots run bigger and the nearest VW dealer is genuinely not a quick trip, a guy called me about his 2010 Touareg. He was running the property mostly solo during planting season, one vehicle, no backup, and the flip key had gotten to the point where it would start the car some mornings and just sit there unresponsive on others. Once I had what I needed, I cut a replacement flip key blade to match the vehicle, pre-coded the transponder portion, and walked through the programming sequence to register both the transponder and the remote to the car.
The moment of truth is always the same: lock it, walk away, try the handle, start the engine. It worked clean on the first try. I cut a second key so he had a spare, tested both, and was back in my van before he had to stop what he was doing for more than a few minutes.
He mentioned afterward that the dealer had also said they would need the car for at least a day. He did not have a day to spare. Mobile service made the job possible in a way the dealer route simply was not.
