Sunday morning in Juanamaria. A vintage reseller had driven her 2007 Touareg to the flea market, unloaded her whole booth, set everything up, and then walked back to lock the car before the crowd showed up. Nothing. Fresh CR2025 in, and it came back partially, enough to tell me the fob itself had been sitting on the edge for a while and the keyless entry system had lost confidence in it. The car was reading the fob as present but not trusted. That's the Touareg telling you it needs a proper re-registration, not just a charged battery.
I connected through the OBD port, went into the keyless entry module and the immobilizer, and walked both of them through registering the fob correctly. Then the mechanical side: the emergency blade in the fob handle gets cut to the vehicle too, so she'd have a way in no matter what. I tested lock and unlock at both front doors, confirmed the proximity detection range walking toward the car from a normal parking-lot distance, and ran every button.
She was back at her booth before the first customers came through. Didn't miss a sale. The dealer conversation was something she mentioned almost as an aside, just glad she didn't have to wait until Monday and haul everything back home in the meantime.
