I got a call from a woman in Simi Hills on a Tuesday morning. She was parked near the trailhead off Flanagan Drive and her Touareg flip key had stopped responding. Not intermittent, not weak signal. Nothing. She had already done the thing people do: pulled the key apart, eyeballed the battery, clicked it fifty more times. Still nothing.
I drove out to her. When I got there, she had the fob in pieces on the hood of the car. The battery contact inside was visibly bent from where she had pried the case open. That can cause a dead fob all by itself, but I wanted to rule out everything before calling it a failed remote.

I prepped the replacement flip key while it processed, cut the blade to her vehicle, and once access cleared, registered the new key and tested it fully. Lock, unlock, blade deployment, engine start.
She had been planning to call the dealer next. She told me they said it would take at least two days once she factored in getting the car there. I was done in about 45 minutes, standing in a parking lot in Simi Hills. Way less than what the dealer wanted, and she kept her afternoon.
