2015 Volkswagen Touareg Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman in Simi Hills on a Tuesday morning. She was parked near the trailhead off Flanagan Drive and her Touareg flip key had stopped responding. Not intermittent, not weak signal. Nothing. She had already done the thing people do: pulled the key apart, eyeballed the battery, clicked it fifty more times. Still nothing.
I drove out to her. When I got there, she had the fob in pieces on the hood of the car. The battery contact inside was visibly bent from where she had pried the case open. That can cause a dead fob all by itself, but I wanted to rule out everything before calling it a failed remote.
I straightened the contact, seated a fresh battery correctly, and reassembled the housing. Still nothing. The blade was fine. The fob was done.
This is where the Touareg job gets different from a lot of other vehicles. Because the key system on this platform runs closer to what you see in Audi territory, programming is not a quick plug-and-go. I connected my equipment to the OBD port, ran through the security access sequence, and let it process. The Touareg takes its time here. There is a handshake the system wants to complete fully before it will accept a new key, and if you rush it or the tool loses communication mid-sequence, you start over.
I prepped the replacement flip key while it processed, cut the blade to her vehicle, and once access cleared, registered the new key and tested it fully. Lock, unlock, blade deployment, engine start.
She had been planning to call the dealer next. She told me they said it would take at least two days once she factored in getting the car there. I was done in about 45 minutes, standing in a parking lot in Simi Hills. Way less than what the dealer wanted, and she kept her afternoon.
