Got a call from someone near Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura on a Tuesday afternoon. She had a 2008 Touareg that would not start, and her only smart key had gone through the washing machine that morning. She found it in the drum after the spin cycle, tried it wet, tried it after towel drying it, nothing. Dash just sat there, no "Key not detected" message, no crank, nothing at all.

I drove out and started with the mechanical side. Decoded the emergency HU66 blade from the driver door cylinder, cut a new insert key, and confirmed the door locks worked clean. Then I plugged into the OBD port under the dash and connected to the KESSY module and the engine ECU. The 2008 Touareg requires a multi-ECU adaptation, not just a simple key learn. The immobilizer handshake runs through the instrument cluster, the KESSY control unit, and the engine module. Took about 40 minutes to get the new KR55WK45032 fob registered and all four buttons responding: lock, unlock, trunk, and panic.
She tested it twice in the parking lot, locked it, walked away, came back, and started it. Then she went back inside to see her next patient. Car never left the spot.
