Hillsides in Ventura on a Wednesday morning. The owner of a 2008 Touareg called and said her fob went through the washing machine. She'd already pulled it apart and let it dry overnight, put in a fresh CR2025, and it still wasn't doing anything. The car was sitting in her driveway, doors locked, and she had somewhere to be.

I cut a replacement blade to match her lock, registered the new fob through the OBD port, and walked through every function before I packed up. Proximity lock, unlock, the emergency blade in the door cylinder, all of it confirmed working. She asked me what would have happened if she'd called the dealer. I told her: order the part, wait for it to ship, come in for programming, pay for all of it separately. She just nodded and went inside.
The car never moved. The job was done in her driveway, and she was on her way before noon.
