Out in Fillmore, near the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau, a guy's 2007 S80 had been sitting in a parking lot since the night before. He lost his only smart key somewhere between a restaurant and his car. No spare at home. No second fob ever purchased. Classic all-keys-lost on a Volvo, which is a different animal than most cars.
He found me online and dropped a GPS pin. I loaded up with everything for his platform and drove out.
First thing I did was pull the CEM, which on the 2007 S80 sits behind the glove box on the passenger side. Backed up the module data using my ACDP programmer before touching anything, because once you start writing keys to these CEMs, there's no undo button if something corrupts. Extracted the security data, built a new KR55WK49266 fob from a blank I had on the truck, and cut the emergency insert blade on my mobile station right there in the lot.
The part that always gets people: watching the car wake up and start on a key that didn't exist an hour ago. He just sat in the driver's seat for a second, hands on the wheel, like he was making sure it was real.
A dealer would have needed a flatbed tow and days of wait time for key ordering. His S80 drove out of that lot the same afternoon.
