2011 Volvo S80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a Euro specialist shop out in Dos Pueblos Canyon in Goleta. They had a 2011 S80 up on the lift for a timing belt job, and while the car was apart, the owner mentioned he only had one working key. Shop called another locksmith to cut and program a spare while it was there. Good thinking, bad outcome.
That locksmith tried an OBD-only program, hit a CEM communication fault, and left. Now the car had zero working keys. The CEM was locked in a reject state, throwing immobilizer faults on every attempt. Shop couldn't even verify their own timing belt work because the car wouldn't start.
I pulled the CEM from behind the glove box. On the 2011 S80, it's held in by a bracket and a few connectors, not the worst module to extract. Bench-read it with my ACDP, found the corrupted key index data, cleared it, wrote clean data back, and generated a new KR55WK49266 smart key from the dump. Six buttons, 30659495 housing, fresh CR2450.
Reinstalled the CEM, powered up, and the new key was accepted on the first registration cycle. Tested all six buttons, walk-away lock, passive entry on both front handles, and start. Then I walked the shop tech through what went wrong so they'd recognize a bad CEM state if they ever saw one again.
About two hours total, module pull to final test. The alternative was a flatbed to the Volvo dealer in Santa Barbara, a possible CEM replacement, and the car sitting there for a week or more.
