Got a pin drop near Poindexter Park in Moorpark. A guy with a 2004 XC70 had one working key left and the remote buttons had gone dead on it weeks ago. He'd been locking with the blade and ignoring it. Then the car threw a "Key not accepted" message on the dash and wouldn't crank at all. He figured the immobilizer finally gave up on that worn-out fob.
I pulled up and started with the CEM. On these P2-platform Volvos, the security data is married to the Central Electronic Module, so I connected my ACDP to back up the CEM EEPROM before touching anything. That step takes a few extra minutes but protects the owner if something goes sideways during programming.
His old key's transponder was actually still reading. The issue was a second key previously registered to the car that had been flagged lost through a dealer at some point, and it created a conflict in the CEM data. Cleaned that up, then built him a fresh LQNP2T-APU with a new cut blade, registered the ID48 glass transponder chip, and synced all five buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the Volvo logo center button.
He stood there watching his XC70 start with the new fob and just said, "I thought I was getting towed." He wasn't. The car never left Poindexter Park.
