A Euro specialist shop near Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park in Moorpark had a problem sitting in their bay. A 2008 Volvo XC70 came in for a timing belt job, customer dropped off both smart keys, and somewhere in the process one key disappeared. No big deal, they thought, the car still has one working fob. Except the remaining KR55WK49266 was acting up too.
They called another locksmith. He tried an OBD-based program through the diagnostic port, got a CEM communication error, and left. Now the car wouldn't start with the one good key either. The CEM was in a fault state, rejecting everything. The shop called me.
I pulled the CEM from behind the glovebox. On these P2 Volvos, the module is buried but accessible if you know the clips. I bench-read the CEM with my ACDP tool, extracted the secured key data from the Hitag2 crypto, cleared the corrupted registration table, and wrote it clean. Then I generated a fresh smart key from the dump and programmed it back through the module.
CEM went back in. First key attempt, the dash lit up clean, no "Key not accepted," no immobilizer warning. I programmed a second spare while I was at it.
The shop tech watched the whole thing. He said the other locksmith had told them the CEM was bricked and they'd need a dealer replacement. They were looking at a tow, a new module, and probably a week without the car. Instead it was about two hours hood-to-handshake, done in their parking lot, for a fraction of what that route would have cost.
