A guy near Moorpark College Area called me about his 2007 Volvo XC70. He had a worn flip key and it was getting hard to turn. He could feel the blade dragging through the cylinder and he wanted a spare cut before something broke, not after.

I decoded the door lock from the outside, which on this generation reads clean and gives you a reliable cut even when the ignition cylinder is worn. I cut the replacement blade on site, then went through the OBD procedure to enroll the transponder with the CEM. Remote functions, lock, unlock, and the remaining buttons, all tested before I closed up. Start tested. Both keys working.
The whole thing was done in the parking lot off Collins Drive while he watched. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and he didn't lose the car for two days.
The part I remember most is that he kept his arms crossed the entire time, not hostile, just the way you stand when you're waiting to see if you got taken. When the car started clean on the new key, he uncrossed his arms and said "all right." That was enough.
