2014 Volvo Xc70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy from Hollywood by the Sea called me on a Saturday morning. He was parked near the water and his 2014 XC70 was giving him a key-not-detected warning every time he walked up to the car. Sometimes it would read the fob, sometimes it wouldn't. He said it had been doing it for two weeks and he'd been living with it, assuming it would pass.
It didn't pass. That morning it stopped reading the fob entirely.
I got there and the first thing I checked was the CR2450. It was the original battery, still showing some voltage on a meter, but not enough to drive the fob's signal reliably under load. Swapped it right there on the hood. Tested approach, tested the door handles, ran through all six buttons. Everything came back solid.
He looked at me like I was about to hand him a big bill. I wasn't.
The whole thing took maybe fifteen minutes once I was parked next to him. He'd been white-knuckling it for two weeks over a battery that cost less than a cup of coffee. I told him to get a spare key made while we were both standing there, because the one fob he was running was his only key and an all-keys-lost situation on this car is a different job entirely. He booked it on the spot.
That second visit took longer. Programming a new fob to the XC70's immobilizer requires professional diagnostic equipment and a proper enrollment sequence. There's no DIY trick, no ignition dance. But we got it done in Oxnard, same neighborhood, and he drove away with a working spare for the first time since he bought the car used three years earlier. The dealer had quoted him a multi-day turnaround and a number that made him put it off until he called me instead.
