Got a call from a guy near Peninsula Park in Oxnard. His 2014 Volvo XC70 was sitting in a parking lot with the message "Key not accepted" on the dash. He had one key, the KR55WK49266, and it had been acting up for weeks. Short range on the lock and unlock, intermittent starts where he had to hold the fob right against the start button, then finally nothing.

I got there, popped the fob open on his hood. The CR2450 was corroded along one edge, and the battery contact had a green film on it. Cleaned the contacts, dropped in a fresh CR2450, and the remote woke up. But the car still wouldn't start off the smart system alone.
Pulled up on VIDA and connected to the CEM, which on P3 Volvos is part number 31314476 on most XC70 builds. The key's transponder profile needed re-enrollment. One programming cycle through OBD, the CEM accepted the fob, and the car started clean.
He sat in the driver's seat for a second after it turned over. Didn't say anything, just nodded. Then asked me to make a spare while I was there. Smart move. All-keys-lost on these P3 Volvos turns a 40-minute job into something much longer and much more expensive.
Whole thing, both keys, done in the parking lot for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him.
