2016 Volvo Xc70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call mid-morning from someone out near Point Mugu State Park in Oxnard. She had driven her 2016 XC70 to the trailhead lot, went for a hike, and came back to a fob that did nothing. No lock, no unlock, push-to-start ignored her completely. The dash just sat there with "Key not accepted" and would not budge.
She tried holding the fob against the start button, which is the emergency backup on these P3 Volvos. Still nothing. That told me it was more than a dead CR2450.
I got out there in about 35 minutes. Decoded the HU101 keyway and got inside. Plugged into the OBD port and pulled up the CEM. The fob's ID46 transponder was registered but the CEM had a communication fault logged, which is something I see on these when the module's solder connections go marginal from age and heat cycling. Cleared the fault, power-cycled the CEM, and programmed a fresh KR55WK49266 with a new CR2450 while I was in there so she had a backup.
Tested all six buttons. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and both remote-start functions responded clean. Push-to-start fired on the first press. She stood there watching the dash like she expected it to argue with her again.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes on site. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she did not have to get the car towed out of a state park parking lot.
