Got a call from a guy near Tierra Rejada Open Space in Moorpark. His 2009 XC70 was sitting in his driveway doing nothing. Push the start button, dash lights up with "Key not accepted," engine won't crank. He had tried a fresh CR2450 in the fob, held it against the steering column where the backup reader sits, nothing.
He told me he had already called the dealer. They wanted the car towed in, said it could be the CEM, quoted him days for parts and diagnosis. He did not have days.
I got to him in about half an hour. Decoded the door with my HU101 Lishi pick, got in, and plugged into OBD. The CEM was reading fine, no solder failures, no voltage drop on the module. His fob was the problem. The 49266 had a contact issue inside the housing where the CR2450 sits. The little spring tab was flattened out just enough to lose connection intermittently.
I programmed a new KR55WK49266 fob on site using VVDI Prog with the solderless CEM adapter for the P3 platform. Pulled the CEM, read it on the bench, wrote the new key data, reinstalled. About 35 minutes hands-on once I was set up.
He started it himself. Sat there for a second with his hand on the wheel like he was making sure it was real. Then he just said, "That's it?"
That was it. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, done in his driveway.
