I was out in Old Escondido on a Tuesday afternoon when the call came in. Guy had a 2003 Corvette sitting in his driveway, key in hand, car starting fine. His problem was the fob. All four buttons dead. Nothing. He'd already been burned by another locksmith who showed up, fiddled with it for twenty minutes, pocketed the cash, and left with the remote still not working.

Replaced it, tested range, still nothing. At that point I knew the previous guy had probably attempted a reprogram and left the fob in a half-registered state.
I connected my equipment through the OBD port, cleared the existing fob from the system, and ran a fresh programming sequence. All four buttons came back clean. Lock, unlock, panic, trunk. I walked the car, tested each button from across the driveway, and had him do the same.
He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him to call and find out, but that whatever number they gave him, he'd already paid a fraction of it. He laughed and said he wished he'd skipped the first locksmith entirely.
