2006 Chevrolet Impala Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She had just left urgent care with her kid and a bag of prescriptions. Her 2006 Impala was sitting in the parking lot not starting, and it was close to 7pm with the pharmacy closing at 9.
The key would turn. Engine would crank, catch for a second, then die. That pattern right there told me what I needed to know before I even pulled up. Classic immobilizer rejection. The transponder chip in her key had stopped communicating correctly, and the car was refusing to run past that initial catch.
I got to her on North Broadway in about 20 minutes. She was standing outside with her kid, holding the prescription bag, not panicking but definitely watching the clock. I plugged into the OBD port, ran the relearn cycle for her Impala, and had it communicating with a replacement key.
Cranked right up.
I walked her through what had actually happened and what to do if a key ever acts up again before it fails completely. That part takes maybe two minutes, but it's the part people actually remember.
The dealer was closed. Even if they weren't, she would have been looking at a tow, an appointment slot, and waiting until at least the next day. She made it to the pharmacy with time to spare. I didn't make a big deal out of the comparison. It was just obvious.
