2020 Chevrolet Impala Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the water in the Bayside area of Imperial Beach when the call came in. A woman's flip key had gone through the washing machine that morning, and she was in a school parking lot with her kids, trying to figure out her next move.
The remote side was completely dead. The blade still physically turned the ignition, and the car would start, but the lock and unlock buttons did nothing. She had already tried a fresh CR2032. Still nothing on the remote. That told me the issue wasn't just a battery. Water intrusion on these fobs can corrode the contacts on the circuit board, and once that happens, the remote side is gone.
I got to her location, opened the fob housing, and confirmed the board had water damage on the contact points. The transponder chip had survived, which was good news. That meant I could program a new shell to her vehicle without having to do an all-keys-lost procedure. I cut the replacement blade to her vehicle, transferred what was salvageable, programmed the new fob through the OBD port, and tested every button plus the start sequence before I packed up.
She had a working key in under 40 minutes. The dealer had quoted her a Thursday appointment and a wait for parts. It was Monday. She made her next stop on time.
