2019 Chevrolet Impala
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Chevrolet Impala Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in San Luis Rey called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He'd just landed at the airport, taken the shuttle to the economy lot, and his 2019 Impala was completely dark. Pressed unlock, nothing. Pressed lock, nothing. He tried the panic button on instinct. Still nothing. The flip blade was his only way in and he didn't even realize it at first because he'd never used it.

He called the dealer. Two days out for an appointment. Then he called a tow company and got a quote that made him wince. Then he found me.

I was in that economy lot within 40 minutes. He was sitting on a concrete barrier with his luggage, still in travel mode, that slightly glazed look people get after a long flight.

I used the flip blade to get the door open, then connected to the OBD port and pulled up the immobilizer status. Both his keys were still enrolled - nothing had been lost or corrupted. The fob battery had just died all the way down. On these Impalas, when the battery drops below threshold, the car won't pick up the transponder signal even at close range, and the backup start behavior can feel like a total system failure when it's just a power issue.

Swapped in a fresh CR2032, verified the contact clips were seated properly, and ran the resync. Then I walked every button: lock, unlock, remote start, trunk, and the panic. All five working. He watched the whole thing from about three feet away.

He drove home that afternoon. No tow, no two-day wait, no dealer queue. Just a dead battery that looked like a much bigger problem than it was.
