1996 Honda Civic Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came in from De Luz, out past the avocado groves on the edge of Fallbrook. A guy was stranded in a pharmacy parking lot.
His 1996 Civic remote had gone completely dark and he had already been there for a while trying to figure it out. He mentioned he was diabetic. His insulin was at home. The grocery run he needed to make was the whole reason he was out there in the first place.
He had called the dealer. Next available appointment was the following day.
Then he called me. I told him I was about fifteen minutes out.
When I got there, the key itself turned fine in the ignition. The car started. That told me the remote fob was the problem, not the ignition side. I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. The CR2025 inside was reading nearly zero volts. Swapped it out, reseated the contacts, and tested it. Nothing. The receiver had lost sync, probably after the battery drained far enough.
Ran the relearn on site. Tested lock, unlock, and every button. Everything came back.
Before I left I walked him through what to do if the remote ever died on him again while he was out, so he would not be stuck waiting on anyone.
From his phone call to his engine running with a working remote was under forty minutes. He made it to the pharmacy, got his prescription, and headed home. The dealer would have gotten to it tomorrow.
