2002 Honda Civic
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Honda Civic Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Friday night in Carmel Mountain Ranch, and a family had just finished dinner at a taqueria when their 2002 Civic decided it was done for the night. The fob was dead. Neither of them knew that the key blade still physically works in the door lock or the ignition regardless of what the fob is doing. They figured the car was stranded until Monday.

They called me just to ask if anything could realistically be done that late.

I was about 15 minutes out. The fob for this car takes a CR2025, and I keep them stocked. I also had the correct replacement remote already in my van, matched to the factory FCC ID for that fob, because this is a common enough Civic to be worth stocking.

Popped the old battery out, checked the contacts for corrosion, seated a fresh CR2025, then ran through the programming sequence to sync the remote back to the car. The whole job took under 30 minutes in a parking lot at 9pm.

They drove home that night. The dealer would have meant waiting until Monday morning, plus a wait in a service queue, for a job that took me less time than the drive over. That gap between what I charge and what a dealer quotes is something people remember. I remember that one because of how relieved they were just to learn someone was coming.
