2002 Lexus GS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Lexus GS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was at a wine bar in Old Escondido when her clutch purse got stolen off the back of her chair. Keys, ID, cards, all of it gone. She borrowed someone's phone, called the police, then her husband, then me.

Her 2002 Lexus GS was sitting in the lot with zero keys. Her husband had already called the dealer while she was still talking to the officer. The dealer said the car would need to be towed in, they were booking out several business days, and the estimate was a number that made him go quiet for a second.

I got there that evening. All-keys-lost after a theft is its own specific job. First thing that has to happen is the key memory gets wiped completely so the stolen key is dead to that car. It cannot start it, it cannot unlock it. Then you register fresh keys from scratch. I used my diagnostic equipment to clear the old data from the vehicle's immobilizer system, cut a new key blade to the car on site, and registered two replacement remote head keys. Both remotes tested good on all buttons. Lock, unlock, trunk release. Ignition started clean.

She drove home that night. The stolen key is electronically useless to whoever has it now. The dealer route would have meant a tow bill on top of the key cost, plus days of waiting. She got two working keys before the police even called back.
