I am locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me?

Yes. Call us and we come directly to wherever you are in Del Mar, including Del Mar Village. We carry the tools and blanks for the 2005 GS on the van, so there is no waiting on parts and no tow required.

One thing worth knowing on this vehicle: the fob has an emergency insert key built into it. If you have the fob but the car stopped recognizing it, you may still be able to get into the door manually with that insert key while we sort out the electronic side. If you have no key at all, we handle the lockout mechanically and then move into cutting and programming a replacement on site.

Do I need to tow my Lexus to the dealer for key replacement?

No. The 2005 GS can have its key system serviced at the vehicle. Dealers often say you need to tow in for all-keys-lost situations, and that is true if you are going the dealer route, because they will not do the work with no drivable car in the bay. But a mobile locksmith with the right equipment handles it at your location. No tow, no drop-off, no waiting days for a parts order.

All-keys-lost on the 2005 GS does take longer than adding a spare alongside an existing key. The system needs to go through a reset sequence before new fobs can be registered, and that process has a timed component built in. Plan for closer to an hour rather than 30 minutes. But it all happens right where the car is sitting.

What do I need to prove I own the vehicle before you can make a key?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. We confirm the VIN against the dash plate or door jamb before starting any work. That is the same standard a dealer would hold you to, just done on site in a few minutes rather than through a service desk process.

On a 2005 vehicle, it is also worth noting that the manufacturer may no longer have a key code on file through the dealer network. That does not affect us the same way, because we decode the lock mechanically at the car rather than pulling a code from a database. We work from what is in front of us.

The fob works fine outside the car but the engine cuts out right after it starts. What is going on?

That pattern, starts then immediately stalls, points to the immobilizer not fully recognizing the key rather than the fob's remote functions failing. The fob and the immobilizer are two separate conversations. The remote side handles lock, unlock, and detection near the door handles. The immobilizer side has to confirm the key's authorization before it allows the engine to keep running.

On the 2005 GS, if the start-and-stall pattern shows up on a key that used to work fine, it can point to a registration issue in the security system, a fob that needs repairing, or occasionally a receiver or antenna problem inside the vehicle. It is not something a battery swap fixes. That is a diagnosis-first job, and I bring the equipment to sort out which layer is the actual problem before cutting or programming anything new.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself or do I need a tech?

You need a tech. The 2005 GS smart key system does not have an onboard self-programming sequence the way some older bladed-key Toyotas do. Registering a new fob requires going through the diagnostic port with professional equipment. There is no ignition-turn trick or button sequence that gets it done on this vehicle.

The fob you bought online can still be used, it just has to be paired by someone with the right tools. Bring it when you call and we will register it on site rather than having you buy a second one.
