2015 Lexus GS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Viejas Area in Alpine, a woman called me from the parking lot of one of the casino resort hotels. Her 2015 Lexus GS was sitting there running fine when she arrived, but by the time she came back out, the fob was dead. Wouldn't wake the car, wouldn't unlock the doors, nothing.
She'd already tried the obvious. New battery, purchased from the gift shop. Still nothing. The dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning and the push-button start wasn't responding at all.
She'd called the dealer first. They told her the car would need to come in, they couldn't guarantee same-day service, and she should plan for the following day at the earliest. She had a drive back to San Diego that night.
I got there within the hour. First thing I checked was the new battery she'd installed. Gift shop CR1632, correct size, but one of the contact clips inside the fob case had a slight outward bow from a previous swap -- the cell wasn't making full contact. I reseated it, bent the clip back true, and tested range. Better, but the fob still wasn't communicating cleanly with the vehicle.
That told me the fob board had a deeper issue, not just the battery. I cut a new emergency blade in the van, programmed a replacement fob to her VIN through the diagnostic port, and walked through every function: touch unlock on both front handles, the hatch, remote lock and unlock, and verified the push-button start saw the new fob from the driver's seat.
Took about 45 minutes total. She was on the 8 heading home before it got dark. The dealer appointment she'd scheduled was still sitting in her phone -- she cancelled it from the car.
