Out in Bressi Ranch, a GS owner called me about a fob that had seen better days. The rubber on the buttons was worn almost smooth, the shell had a hairline crack running down one side, and the emergency blade slot was sloppy enough that the blade would shift around when she grabbed her keys. The car still started. The proximity still worked. But she knew it was only a matter of time before something cracked the wrong way and took the circuit board with it.

I met her in her garage. Opened the fob on her workbench so she could watch the whole thing. The circuit board was clean, the contacts were solid, and the transponder chip showed no damage. Everything that actually makes the key work was in good shape. What she needed was a fresh shell, new buttons, and a correctly cut replacement blade to match her door lock.
Swapped the board and chip into the new housing, seated a fresh CR1632 with proper contact pressure, verified the blade cut, and walked every function: door handles, lock and unlock buttons, the start button response from normal carry distance. Everything came back exactly as it should.
She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted for a full replacement. And she left with a fob that actually felt solid in her hand again.
