2011 Lexus GS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman over near the Torrey Pines area of Del Mar, parked outside a coffee place, car running but rattled. She had made it there, but the door handle touch unlock had stopped responding on the driver side that morning. By the time she called me, the start button was also throwing a key-not-detected warning even with the fob sitting right on the center console.
She had already bought a replacement fob online. Unprogrammed, sitting in the cupholder in its little static bag like it was going to help on its own.
I popped the existing fob open on the hood. The CR1632 inside was original, which on a 2011 meant it had been in there for going on thirteen years. Not dead, but weak enough that the vehicle security system was losing confidence in it under certain conditions. The contact tabs had also spread slightly, probably from someone trying to change it at some point and using a screwdriver instead of the coin slot.
Bent the tabs back, dropped in a fresh CR1632, and seated the cover correctly. Walked every function: driver handle, passenger handle, lock button, the works. All four buttons responsive. Key-not-detected warning gone.
The fob she bought online went back in the bag. She didn't need it that day. If she ever does, she knows who to call to get it paired.
No tow, no dealer appointment, no leaving the car. Just a quiet parking lot off Torrey Pines and about fifteen minutes of actual work.
