2022 Toyota Camry
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2022 Toyota Camry Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the Las Americas Area in San Ysidro. He had been at the shops, came back to his 2022 Camry, and the door handle would not respond.

He pressed it three times, got nothing, then tried the start button and saw a key-not-detected warning on the dash. He assumed the worst. Thought the fob had died or the car had a bigger problem.

He had not changed the CR2032 since he bought the car. That was about two years of use. The battery was not quite dead but it was low enough that the capacitive door handle antenna could not pick it up from his pocket.

I swapped the battery on site, reseated it clean, and tested every function. Doors, lock, the whole fob. Came right back.

Then I walked him through the hidden insert key trick anyway, because if this happens again in a parking lot at night, he needs to know he is not stranded. Pull the insert, pop the cover on the driver's handle, and get in. Then hold the fob to the start button. That is his backup plan now.

He did not need a new key. He needed the right information and a fresh CR2032. The whole stop was under twenty minutes. The dealer would have booked him for a diagnostic appointment and probably a few days out.
