Got a call from a guy over in the Juanamaria neighborhood in Ventura. He had just come out of a medical office on crutches, post-surgery, and his 2004 Buick Rendezvous would crank all day but refused to start. Dash was lit up with the SECURITY light just sitting there, solid. He said his wife was at work and he couldn't exactly hobble to a dealership.
I drove out that morning. His key was the original B99 blade with the PK3 transponder in the head. The chip was still reading, but the Body Control Module had lost its learned key data. This happens on these Rendezvous BCMs, especially the 15115867 and similar boards. The BCM just forgets.
I pulled up on my Autel IM608 Pro, connected through the OBD-II port, and ran the PK3 transponder relearn. Read the ID 13 chip, cleared the old key data in the BCM, and reprogrammed his original key back in. Then cut and programmed a spare B99 transponder so he wouldn't be in this spot again.
He watched from a bench near the entrance. Didn't have to call his wife. Didn't have to arrange a tow.
The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. A dealer would have needed the car towed in first and probably quoted a week out for the appointment. He was driving to pick up his prescription before lunch.
