Got a call from a guy sitting outside a cafe in Ventura, over in Loma Vista neighborhood. His 2005 Buick Rendezvous was doing the thing where you turn the key, the starter cranks, and the engine just won't catch. The SECURITY telltale on the instrument cluster was lit up solid, not flashing. He had a client meeting in two hours and sounded like he was already doing the math on how the day was about to fall apart.
The dealer told him they'd need the car dropped off and couldn't look at it for a few days. For a car that just needed its key re-enrolled, that timeline made no sense to him. It didn't make much sense to me either.
I got to the lot in about 20 minutes. Used my B111 Lishi to decode and verify the mechanical cut was clean on his B99 blade. Then I connected through the OBD-II port and ran a PK3 theft-deterrent relearn through the Body Control Module. His battery had been replaced the week before at a parts store, and the disconnect event knocked the transponder correlation out of sync in the BCM.
The relearn has a built-in 10-minute security timer you just have to sit through. Total hands-on time was around 35 minutes including the wait.
He made his meeting. The car started like nothing ever happened. He just sat there for a second after the engine caught, like he didn't trust it yet.
