A graveyard shift warehouse worker called me from a gas station lot near Rincon Beach Park in Ventura, right around 11pm. He had one remote for his 1995 Chrysler LHS and it was gone. Pocket, car, jacket, ground around the pump. Nothing. He was already looking up tow trucks.
I talked him through it on the phone. Told him to look through the windshield at the base of the glass on the driver's side, read me the VIN. With the VIN I already knew exactly what I was bringing: a Y157 key blank for the ignition and a GQ43VT7T remote with a fresh CR2016.
Got there, cut the mechanical key on site, then paired the new remote to his RKE receiver. On the 1995 LHS, the remote is RF only, handles locks and trunk, no transponder involved. The whole job happened under gas station lights with him watching.
He kept asking if the car would really start. It did, first turn. No chip in this system, no immobilizer module to deal with. That is the nice thing about pre-SKIM Chryslers.
He drove home that night. A dealer would have needed a tow, a next-day appointment, and a lot more money. He just needed someone who picked up the phone at 11pm.
