1999 Chrysler LHS Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near Promenade Park in Ventura. His 1999 Chrysler LHS had been sitting for a few months while he dealt with some health stuff. When he finally went to start it, the engine cranked for about two seconds and died. Then the yellow key icon lit up on the dash and stayed there.
He thought it was the battery. Replaced it. Same thing. Cranked briefly, shut off, key light staring back at him.
That steady SKIM indicator told me exactly what was happening. The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module was not recognizing the transponder signal from his original key. On these second-gen LH platform cars, the SKIM talks to the PCM over the PCI bus. If the transponder response does not match, the PCM kills fuel injector pulse after about two seconds of crank. The car is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
I pulled the SKIM PIN from the module, cut a new Y160-PT blank to match the original, and programmed a fresh PCF7935 transponder to the system. Three clean starts in a row. Key light off on every one.
He stood there turning the key back and forth like he was testing whether it would change its mind. It did not.
The whole job took maybe 25 minutes, right there in his driveway. No tow truck, no dealer service lane, no week-long wait for a parts-counter key order.
