2001 Chrysler LHS Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Newbury Park, off one of those side streets near the 101, a guy called me about a snapped key in his 2001 Chrysler LHS door lock. The blade had broken clean, and he already had someone tell him the cylinder needed to come out and be replaced. New cylinder, new keys, the whole thing.
He called me for a second opinion.
I drove out and took a look. The fragment was seated in the lock but hadn't rotated, which meant the wafers inside were in decent shape. I used a Lishi tool to work the broken piece out without touching the wafer surfaces. Clean extraction, nothing scratched. Once it was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position directly. That gave me the exact cut depths I needed.
I cut a new key from the decode right there at the truck, programmed the transponder chip to the immobilizer using the PIN retrieval method since we were all-keys-lost, and handed him a working key.
His lock still works the same as the day it left the factory. No new cylinder. No drilling. The other locksmith's plan would have cost him a lot more and replaced hardware that didn't need replacing.
He asked why the first guy went straight to drilling. I told him some shops don't carry the tools for extraction and decoding, so replacement becomes the default answer.
