2001 Chrysler LHS Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy stuck near the Borderline Bar and Grill memorial area in Thousand Oaks. His 2001 Chrysler LHS key snapped clean in half inside the driver door lock. Blade broke right at the bow, and the business end was jammed in the cylinder.
He had already talked to another locksmith who wanted to drill the cylinder, replace it, rekey the whole thing. That's the nuclear option, and it wasn't needed here.
I got to him, pulled out my Y160 Lishi tool, and extracted the broken fragment without touching the wafer surfaces inside. Once the piece was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position one by one. That gave me the exact bitting for a new key without needing the original blade or a key code lookup.
His car runs the SKIM system with a PCF7935 transponder chip in a standalone Y160 blade and a separate GQ43VT17T remote fob. I cut a new BY160-PT blank from the decode, then programmed the transponder through the OBD port using the vehicle's SKIM PIN. PIN was pulled from the PCM, chip was registered to the SKIM module, and the car started on the first turn.
His original lock cylinder works with the new key like nothing happened. No drilling, no replacement parts, no trip to the dealer for a tow and a week-long wait. Just a decoded lock and a properly programmed key, done on site for a fraction of what the other guy quoted.
