1995 Infiniti J30
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a locksmith cheaper than going to an Infiniti dealer for this key?

On a 1995 J30, yes, by a wide margin. Dealers tend to apply modern Infiniti key pricing to older vehicles even when the job does not call for it. The J30 predates the intelligent key era entirely. What the car needs is a metal key cut to the lock, and a qualified locksmith can do that on-site. No appointment, no tow, no waiting for a parts order.

Q: Does the price include everything, or are there add-on fees?

One price, everything included. The blank, the cut, and the mobile service to your location. There is no programming on a 1995 J30 key, so there is no separate programming charge. What we quote on the phone is what you pay. Dealers sometimes break a job like this into separate line items for the blank, the cutting labor, and the service call. We do not do that.

Q: I have no keys at all for my J30. Can you still make one without a locksmith having to tow it somewhere?

That is exactly what mobile locksmithing is built for. When there are no working keys, the door lock can be decoded on-site. That process reads the internal wafer positions of the lock without removing or damaging the cylinder, gives me the cut code I need, and I cut the key right there. The car does not need to move. The lock does not get drilled or replaced.

Q: My J30 key turns hard in the ignition. Do I need a new key or is the cylinder worn out?

Could be either, but start with the key. A worn key blank loses its crisp edge-cut profile over time and drags against the wafers instead of lifting them cleanly. A fresh key cut to the correct depth specs often fixes a stiff ignition immediately. If a new key still turns hard, then the cylinder itself is worth a closer look.

1995 Infiniti J30 Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A photographer came out to a canyon pullout off the edge of Camarillo and realized his key was gone. Somewhere on the trail, somewhere in the dirt. His 1995 Infiniti J30 was sitting right there, locked, and the nearest Infiniti dealer was a solid hour away.

He had already called another locksmith. That guy wanted to drill the lock cylinder and quoted him something north of five hundred dollars. The photographer told me he almost said yes just because he was stuck.

I drove out to Woodcreek, met him, and got to work with a decoder on the door lock. It reads the wafer positions inside the cylinder without removing it, without forcing it, without leaving a mark. The lock told me everything I needed. I cut a fresh key blank to those specs and handed it to him.

It went into the ignition, turned clean, and the car started. Every door worked. The original cylinder was untouched.

He looked at the key for a second like he expected something to go wrong. Nothing did. He was back on the road for a fraction of what the other locksmith quoted, and the car looked exactly the same as when I pulled up.
