A restaurant owner near Channel Islands Harbor had been fighting his 2012 M56 for a few weeks before he called me. Not a dead key, not a lockout. Something more annoying: the fob worked fine in the morning, then by afternoon the driver door handle wouldn't respond to touch. He'd grab it, nothing. He'd try again, nothing. Then it would work. Then it wouldn't.

I also popped the fob open while I had him standing there. The CR2032 was original, still reading voltage but low enough that I'd have gotten a callback in two months. Swapped it out right there. Two problems resolved at once.
He canceled the dealer appointment. Said the quote he'd gotten was for a full key replacement plus diagnostic time. He paid a fraction of that and kept both his afternoon and his working door handle.
