2013 Infiniti M56
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: The Infiniti dealer told me I have to tow my M56 in for key replacement. Is that actually true?

It's true for the dealer. They're not set up to come to you, so towing is the only way to get the car into their service bay. But that's a dealer limitation, not a technical one. The key programming on the 2013 M56 happens through the OBD port, which is accessible at the vehicle wherever it sits. I bring the diagnostic equipment to you. No tow required, no rental car, no half-day sitting in a waiting room.

Q: What do I need to show you before you can cut and program a key for my M56?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or the title. I verify the VIN from the dash plate or the door jamb sticker on site, which also confirms the key specification for that exact vehicle. Same documentation a dealer would require. I check everything before I cut anything, and the whole verification step takes a couple minutes, not a trip to a parts counter.

Q: I have one working fob for my M56. Can a second one be added without erasing the first?

Yes. Adding a spare when you still have a working fob is actually the easier version of this job. The system on the 2013 M56 allows multiple fobs to be registered, and the process through the diagnostic port lets me add a new key while keeping the existing one active. You don't lose your original, and both will operate the vehicle normally afterward.

Q: My M56 fob has a key-not-detected warning on the dash but the fob battery is brand new. What's going on?

A few things can cause that even with a fresh battery. The most common one I see: the battery is new but it's seated slightly off, or the contact inside the fob got bent when the old one was pried out. The warning shows because the car isn't reading the fob signal cleanly. Open the fob, check that the battery is flat and centered, and look at the metal contacts.

2013 Infiniti M56 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Carriage Square on a Tuesday morning, maybe 8:15. He had a 2013 Infiniti M56 and exactly one working fob. No spare. He'd been running that way for about a year and finally decided the risk wasn't worth it anymore.

He'd already called the Infiniti dealer. They told him to bring the car in, quoted him a number that made him pause, and said the earliest appointment was a few days out. He works from home and his first meeting was at nine. Not a lot of margin there.

I was at his building before 8:45. The M56 was in the covered garage, which actually made things easier since I wasn't fighting the sun. I decoded the door lock directly at the vehicle to get the correct cut, then cut the new key blade to match. Programming the new fob through the OBD port took most of the remaining time. The M56's system requires diagnostic equipment to register a new smart key, so there's no shortcut there, but with the right tools it runs clean. Both fobs confirmed on the push-button start and the door handles before I put my tools away.

He was at his desk with two minutes to spare. The dealer comparison came up almost as an afterthought when he was signing the paperwork. He'd saved a good chunk and never moved the car.

Infiniti M56 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me in Carriage Square?▼

Yes, that's a standard call for me. I come to wherever the M56 is in Oxnard and handle everything on site. The M56 has a physical emergency blade built into the fob, so if your fob is inside the car, the door can still be opened mechanically once a blade is cut to the vehicle. From there I can cut and program a new smart key right in the parking lot, garage, wherever you're at.
