2004 Jeep Liberty Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy in the Mira Monte area of Ojai who had a 2004 Jeep Liberty sitting in his driveway with one key left. The other one had been missing for months, and he finally admitted it was probably gone for good.
He had already called the Jeep dealer. They told him to tow it in, leave it for the day, and they would cut and program a new Sentry Key transponder. He asked what happens if he loses the last one. They told him that becomes a bigger job involving the SKIM module and the PCM, and it gets expensive fast. That spooked him enough to stop waiting.
I drove out, pulled the key code from the SKIM using my programmer through the OBD-II port, and confirmed the system had two keys stored, one active, one still floating around somewhere. I erased the lost key so it can't start the Liberty anymore. Then I cut a fresh Y160-PT blank to code on my Xhorse machine, cloned the correct Megamos ID64 transponder value, and programmed it through the vehicle.
Tested the new key three times cold, cycled the ignition, watched for the SKIM light on the dash. Two seconds on, then off. That means accepted.
He went from one key and a missing spare to two working keys and zero ghost keys in the system. Took about 25 minutes parked in his driveway.
