I got a call from a rideshare driver parked near a brake shop off Hitchcock Way, right at the edge of Presidio. He was calm about it but clearly frustrated. He'd already been through it once.
A locksmith he found through a sponsored ad had come out, taken his money, and handed him a key that half worked. The remote functions went through fine. Lock, unlock, all of it. But every time he got in and tried to start, the dash threw a key-not-detected warning. The car wasn't going anywhere. He'd been using a friend's ride for two days.
He found me through Google Guaranteed and his first question wasn't about price. It was how to verify I was actually licensed. That's a fair question and honestly a good one. I gave him my BSIS license number right on the phone and told him to look it up on the BSIS public portal while we were still talking. He did. We kept talking.
When I got there, the situation was exactly what he described. The remote side of the fob was paired and responding. The immobilizer enrollment hadn't been completed. That's the part the first guy skipped or didn't finish. I connected through the OBD port, ran the full immobilizer registration sequence on his existing fob, and confirmed all four buttons were functioning and the vehicle was ready to start.
He sat in the driver seat and turned it over. No warning. Clean start.
The dealer had quoted him more than twice what I charged. He was back on the road the same afternoon, which for a rideshare driver is the whole ballgame.
