2020 Kia Forte Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out at Faria Beach, not far from the shore, I got a call from a guy who'd been standing next to his 2020 Forte for about forty minutes before he found me. He'd lost his only fob somewhere between the water and the parking area. No spare. Push-button start, no fob in range, and the car wasn't going anywhere.
He'd already called the Kia dealer. They told him it was a tow-in job. They needed the car in the service bay because all-keys-lost on a push-button-start model isn't something they handle in the lot. He was looking at a tow plus a wait, plus whatever they'd bill him once the car got there. He didn't love any part of that.
I drove out to him. The job on a 2020 Forte smart key all-keys-lost means connecting to the OBD port, clearing the existing key memory from the immobilizer, then registering the new fob through the module. I backed up the immobilizer data first as a precaution before touching anything. Then I ran the registration sequence, held the new fob near the start button during the countdown, and let the system enroll it. Cut the emergency insert blade to match the door lock. Tested every button, tested the start, walked the door handles.
He was back on the road in about forty-five minutes. Did it right there in the parking area at Faria Beach without moving the car an inch. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait, and a bill that was a good chunk more than what he paid me.
Smart key all-keys-lost feels like a dealer-only situation because the car is completely unresponsive. It isn't dealer-only. It's just tool-dependent.
