2023 Kia Forte Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked near the College area of Ventura, just off campus. He was heading back to his 2023 Kia Forte after class and the fob was acting up, then stopped responding entirely.
No lock, no unlock, push-button start showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash. He had tried holding the fob right against the start button the way someone told him to, and it fired once, then nothing after that.
By the time I pulled up, he had already convinced himself the whole fob was dead and that he was looking at a full replacement. I asked when he last changed the battery. He said he had not, ever. Car was about a year old and he had never thought about it.
I opened the fob on the trunk lid. The CR2032 inside was not seated flat. One edge was slightly cocked up, probably from a drop at some point. Voltage on the cell was low but not totally gone, which is exactly why it worked intermittently instead of failing clean. I seated a fresh battery with correct contact tension, snapped the fob back together, and walked every function: lock, unlock, push-button start, and the remaining buttons. All of it came back immediately.
That was it. No new fob, no programming, no dealer visit. He had already mentally budgeted for the dealer and was relieved when the actual fix took less time than finding parking.
I do carry blank fobs and have the equipment to program them on site if a replacement is ever actually needed. But I am not going to sell someone a new key when a fresh CR2032 and a good contact seat is the whole job.

“They got to my location within 20 minutes of my phone call and had my new key+fob ready to go about 18 minutes after he arrived. A new working car key and fob within about 40 minutes and for a VERY reasonable price. I highly recommend. Customer service was great too.”
