2010 Lincoln MKT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
North Ranch is the kind of neighborhood where the driveway is long and the garage is full. I got a call from a woman over there whose 2010 MKT had been sitting for a couple of days after her only working fob stopped being recognized at the door handles. She'd already tried a new CR2032 on her own, which was the right first move.
When I pulled up, she met me at the end of the driveway. The car was unlocked because she'd used the mechanical backup key buried in the fob housing to get in. Smart move. She told me the start button would sometimes catch the fob if she held it close to the button itself, but the door handles were completely unresponsive.
I checked the fob first. Battery was seated correctly, contacts looked clean. Ran a quick diagnostic on the vehicle side and found that the fob had partially lost its pairing, probably from the battery dying while a door was open, which can interrupt the handshake on these. The existing fob was still in memory but flagged as inconsistent.
Re-registered both her original fob and a new spare I had prepped in the van. Tested door handle touch unlock on all four doors, the start button recognition from across the seat, and all four buttons on both fobs. Everything came back clean.
She asked how the dealer had quoted her three days out and a wait for a parts order when I was done in under thirty minutes in her own driveway. I didn't have a great answer for that. Saved her a good chunk either way.
